Taiwan man to spend two years cycling around the world
A Taiwan man said Monday that he was planning to
spend two years cycling around the world.
Wu Shih-chang, 28, a painter, said cycling around the world was
his dream.
"So I decided to explore the world on my bicycle, and show people
in all countries that the should have enthusiasm for life and should
chase their dreams," he told the German Press Agency dpa.
Wu is due to fly to Alaska on June 1. From there he is to cycle to
Canada, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
"I will cycle most of the way, but will fly or take a boat when I
cross from South America to Europe and from Europe to Asia. The trip
will end in Australia," he said.
Wu plans to spend eight US dollars a day on the trip, and has
saved 8,000 US dollars for the expedition.
Money is a big problem because has not found a sponsor yet.
"My parents will not fund the trip. All my mother said was that if
I run out of money, she will send me a return plane ticket," he noted.
Taiwan manufacturer Giant donated a bicycle to Wu, and a teacher
has donated a notebook computer.
But to Wu, the biggest challenge could be getting entry visas from
countries which do not have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, as the
island is recognized by only 23 states.
